Nostalgia Eliminator I - The 1-week postponement of eliminations whittled the 32-car Nostalgia  Eliminator down to 25 returning competitors, creating an oddball ladder, and then Kevin Sarginson handled the rest. Sarginson beat Gabe Wood, Eily Stafford, Mike Fitzello, and then Tony Wimer before facing Bobby Runyon in the final. A well-timed throttle blip during staging provoked Runyon's red light start, instantly handing the March Meet title to Sarginson.

Nostalgia Eliminator

Four of the top five NE 1 contenders were on hand for the Sacramento race including points leader Jordan Frolka and number two Alex Barrett (“Rocketeer”). Although Frolka and Barrett did not qualify particularly high in the field, #3 in the points Dale Ward and #4 Dale Taros slipped in right behind top qualifier Mike Beursken at the two and three spots, respectively. In eliminations, both Frolka’s sleek Neil & Parks rail and Barrett’s colorful funny car fell to eventual runner up Dale Taros. Taros continued to have things go his way by knocking off Beursken in E3. The only racer that stood between Dale and victory was Kevin Sarginson. Kevin had been having quite a night for himself too, knocking off Austin Frye in E1 and 2009 Fremont Reunion winner Tony Wimer in E2. In the final, both drivers cut identical .053 lights and the race was in doubt right to the end. But, with Sarginson pressing the index with a 7.609, Taros had to stay on the throttle and broke out at 7.577.

'Tis bitchin'!

Bill, that is Kevin Sarginson. That car is for real. Went to the finals. Qualified #1, 7.601. Next year he may run 7.0Pro. This year it looks like he is going to terrorize NE1. 509 Brodix Chevy, on alky. powerglide. I've been working with them to help establish a baseline (to well i guess, as he took me out 2nd round...), and get them ready to be competitive in NE/1. The car is a brand new car. I can't recall who did the pipe work. It is a show car they took drag racing. It is absolutely beautiful. It is covered in ghost flames up front too. They have a all original 65 at home that looks very similar. I keep trying to talk them into using it as the tow car, but it ain't happening.

By Kevin Sarginson:

The event was the 2009 ANRA SPRING NATIONALS held at famoso raceway june 21-22. The best thing that could happen did...the car ran great and we all had a good time.

This was the first race with the new car and we had beginners luck on our side.
The first qualifying run surprised us with the first 7 second run ever for the car a 7.84 and we were all happy enough to call the whole weekend a success.

But wait theres more, on the second qualifying pass a line that had been left loose on the injector distribution block came off and covered the windshield with alcohol at about the 1000' and that leaned out the motor enough to make the car run a 7.60 with a 1 on our NE1 7.60 index, thats right we were number one qualifier, you gotta be kidding me.

We made some adjustments to the injection and timing to try and compensate for the lose of fuel going to the motor with the loose line and we ran a 7.62 lap on the final qualifying run, good enough, we were ready to go to eliminations.

First round: We have a bye because we were number one qualifier, ran it out to see what it would do, 7.62...

Second round: I can only say that Greg Means is a great guy and we were again lucky to win another round with another 7.62...

Round three: I think we were in a state of disbelief when we again took the round with a 7.64.

Final round : Ok here it comes, the end everybody knew was coming. We pull up to fire up the motor, we start it and the motor runs on the primer bottle then dies, again we start, again it dies, two more times we try with no success, by now the car in the other lane is told by the stater to stage and off he goes to the winners circle.

We think the fuel pump lost prime because we didn't have a lot of cool off time, we will learn and be back.
